The match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) turned out to be a closely-fought one. The game went down to the last over and with nine runs required off it, Jofra Archer hit a four and a six off Prasidh Krishna to help the Royals win the encounter by three wickets. It was RR’s first win against KKR since 2008 even as the hosts are almost knocked out from this edition’s IPL.
Chasing 176 to win, Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson started the Royals’ run-chase with a quickfire stand of 53 runs off 32 balls that set the platform for the rest of the innings. However, spinners Sunil Narine and Piyush Chawla applied the brakes to bring KKR back into the match as Rajasthan were soon left reeling 98 for 5 in 12.3 overs. 17-year-old Riyan Parag and Shreyas Gopal brought the Royals back into the game with some sensible cricket before Joffra Archer came in and played a blinder to take the Royals over the finishing line.
With the required rate rising constantly, Jofra Archer came out all guns blazing and even hit Sunil Narine for a huge six in his final over before Riyan Parag hit Prasidh Krishna for a 4 and a 6 in the 18th over to leave the Royals needing just 18 off 12 balls. Parag was unfortunately dismissed hit wicket for 47 but Joffra Archer kept his calm and hits Prasidh Krishna for a boundary and a six off the first two balls of the final over to seal the victory for the visitors.
